Relief Work 2017

Fire in IY 11th March

During the early hours of 11 March 2017, an incident unfolded that would forever be etched in the collective memory of the Western Cape. What initially seemed like a minor fire swiftly escalated into the most devastating informal housing fire ever witnessed in the region. For a relentless period of over 12 hours, the raging flames left a path of destruction, leaving over 10,000 individuals without anything but the clothes they wore.
Amidst the overwhelming despair, a remarkable display of solidarity emerged.

People from all walks of life united, offering their unwavering support and solace to those affected. Witnessing such a tremendous outpouring of compassion was truly awe-inspiring.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every individual who played a role in the immense relief and support efforts. From the courageous firefighters who fearlessly battled against the elements on the front lines, to the generous corporate donors who selflessly contributed, and to the dedicated volunteers who tirelessly persevered during sweltering relief distribution days, each and every contribution, no matter how small, was crucial in enabling the extensive relief initiatives.
