At approximately 23:40 on the 26 December a fire was reported in the area of Xola Square, Imizamo Yethu. Fire and rescue worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control, sadly many homes were lost as the fire raged for a number of hours before being extinguished.
An estimated 1200 people lost their homes and tragically a life of a young resident was lost in the blaze. City of Cape Town Disaster Management provided building material. Over 3 days we provided the basic relief items needed. It was a privilege to work closely with Disaster Management, City Electric department, Law Enforcement, Water and Sanitation, Human Settlement, Informal Housing, Solid Waste, our local Ward Councillor and Community Leaders.
